BIOGRAPHY
Ruby is a twenty year old Yorkshire born Soprano currently in her second year of training at the Royal Northern College of Music with renowned coloratura soprano Sandra Dugdale. A former choral scholar at Bradford Grammar School, Ruby is privileged to have a wealth of performing experience and has taken part in concerts both in a choir and as a soloist, alongside numerous appearances in musical theatre.
Despite her young years, Ruby has performed the soprano solo in Vivaldi’s Gloria for the European Union Chamber Orchestra and as a guest artist for BBC Radio Leeds on their Christmas broadcast. She was also lucky enough to perform in a masterclass for Sir Thomas Allen, an experience that inspired her to pursue her dream of becoming a professional singer.
During her first year of college, Ruby auditioned successfully for the RNCM Chamber Choir and has performed in numerous concerts with them including Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and a masterclass with David Hill. Ruby is also a member of the Rodolfus Choir with Ralph Allwood and has worked with them on two concerts of specially arranged music in Queens College Cambridge and St Peters Church, Gloucester.
In addition, Ruby was selected by the RNCM to represent them at the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary for Young Singers where she competed against 15 singers from colleges all around the country.
Most recently Ruby competed in the 2019 David Clover festival of singing, where she was chosen as one of five finalists out of twenty seven singers in the recital section to perform again for the panel and audience at the Sunday evening finals. She received excellent feedback from the panel and audience alike and can't wait to further her competition experience!
Ruby is extremely excited to announce her RNCM opera debut in March 2019 in Vaughan Williams’ The Pilgrims Progress.
In her spare time, Ruby loves going home to her beloved home county of Yorkshire and taking long walks with her parents and two dogs. She also loves to dance and takes regular trips to theatres all over the north to watch the ballet, her favourite being Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.
